The pioneer of electronic music, the man who was nominated for the 2017 Grammy Awards in the Best Dance / Electronic Album category, Jean-Michel Jarre, will be passing on May 11 in Montreal, at the Bell Center with his world tour Electronica. This is a first time since the beginning of his career. If you do not know the DJ/producer who revolutionized electronic music to make it evolve to what it is today, here is a small biography of Jean-Michel Jarre‘s career. Before a short description of the life of Jarre, if you want to buy tickets for his show in Montreal, you can get it right here.

Jean-Michel André Jarre was born on August 24, 1948 in Lyon, France. From an early age, Jarre was introduced to music, specifically piano. He was quickly introduced to a variety of art forms, including those of street artists, jazz musicians and the artist, Pierre Soulages. He played guitar in a band as a teenager, but his musical style was greatly influenced by Pierre Schaeffer, a pioneer of concrete music at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales.

His first success was his Oxygène album released in 1976. Recorded in a homelade studio at his home, the album sold about 12 million copies. Oxygène was followed by Equinoxe released in 1978 and, in 1979, Jarre played in front of a record audience of more than a million people at the Place de la Concorde, a record he has since broken three times.

In 2004, Jarre had sold about 80 million albums. He was the first French musician officially invited to perform in the People’s Republic of China and holds the world record for the largest audience in an outdoor event.

Here is some information about his world tour Electronica.
